Best in Travel: TURKEY

You want to go on holiday but not sure where, why not visit Turkey!

A country where you can find anything you are looking for from City Breaks to Beach Holidays, from Sports to Shopping, from History to Modern, a holiday you will remember and repeat.  In this issue we will tell you what you can do in three days in Istanbul.

City Break – three days in Istanbul
Best place to visit if you only have a few days is Istanbul.  Largest and most beautiful city of Turkey, Istanbul, is the country’s economic, cultural and historical heart.

There are many things to do in Istanbul and if you have time and want to explore Istanbul thoroughly then you should definitely do it, however, if you only have three days in Istanbul and you want a taste of Istanbul then here is what you can do:

Day 1 in Istanbul

You should choose a hotel located in Sultanahmet, the Constantinople of the Roman, Eastern Roman/Byzantine, and much of the Ottoman periods. Sultanahmet is where most of the famous historical sights of Istanbul are located such as the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Byzantine Cystern and the Topkapi Palace.

You should spend your Day 1 in Istanbul going around Sultanahmet and visiting the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Byzantine Cystern and the Topkapi Palace.  If you have time and you are not so tired, you could even spend some time in the close by colorful Spice Bazaar and the Grand Bazaar.

For dinner or something to drink you should go to the famous Istiklal Caddesi or if you are a seafood person then you must try one of many fish restaurants located on the Bosphorus.

Day 2 in Istanbul

Having spent a very tiring day visiting all the must see historical monuments why don’t you spend your Day 2 in Istanbul sight-seeing and relaxing at the same time.  You could take a boat taxi from Eminonu to the Princes’ Islands and spend a day visiting all the islands.  The last island to visit is the Buyukada where you can go around the island on a horse cart or a bike. There are many restaurants in Buyukada but I would recommend that you come back to downtown Istanbul and spend an evening in Ortakoy where you can enjoy food from many restaurants or what I would recommend is to eat a Jacket Potato with fillings of many to choose from sold by stands and then stroll around Ortakoy where you will find lots of stands selling hand made goods.

Day 3 in Istanbul

If you want to visit more historical monuments then Dolmabahce Palace is a must see.  It is a very old palace dating back to the 18th century.  The most important event that happened at the Dolmabahce Palace is the death of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk on 10 November 1938.

After your visit to Dolmabahce Palace you could visit the biggest shopping centre, Cevahir, Sisli for some shopping.  If you don’t fancy shopping then why not go to Istiklal Caddesi for a stroll around.  Taksim is a great place to walk around.
For the evening, take the Bosphorus ferry in Istanbul and have the most enjoyable and romantic night in ─░stanbul.  You could enjoy the dance of colours, the view back to the Old City and a fantastic dinner. You want to go on holiday but not sure where, why not visit Turkey!
